Thomastown is fortunate in having a branch of the multinational Lidl on its doorstep. It has everything you would expect at reasonable prices and an in-store bakery too plus plenty of car parking space.

Dunphy’s Store is to be found within the Texaco service station on Lady’s Well Street in Thomastown. It is a late night convenience store that also has a deli counter & Off License. It supplies petrol, diesel plus wood & peat briquettes for home heating. In addition, it sells tyres and repairs punctures should you be unfortunate enough to need such a service. It also has one of the three LINK ATM machines in Thomastown.

O’Keeffe’s on Market Street is a newsagents and convenience store which has a petrol & diesel pump outside too. They also make sandwiches and filled rolls to order and serve fresh coffee to takeaway. It is also the pick up point for buses to Carlow, Kildare & Dublin and a Paypoint for road tolls. .

Confusingly, this shop is known locally as Prendergasts (the shop front has a preservation order on it so the name can’t be changed to reflect the current owners). It is a Craft Butcher Shop & Abattoir supplying locally sourced meat to the community. They humanely slaughter their own beef and lamb and are Deep Freeze Specialists.They also supply a range of home cooked meats as well as homemade sausages, burgers plus gluten free breakfast puddings.

On Friday mornings (until around 1.00pm), a mobile fishmonger sets out his stall near the Ollie Walsh statue on Mill Street. A wide array of freshly caught fish is on offer but varies with the season. Salmon, halibut, monkfish, plaice, sole, lemon sole, kippers, mackerel, skate and prawn are regularly available.

SuperValu, on the Dublin Road in Thomastown, is part of a national supermarket chain and has most of what you’ll need for your stay. It has fresh fruit and vegetables, an in-store bakery, meat & fish counters, deli counter and off- license supplying a comprehensive range of wines, beers & spirits. can be found in-store as well as a DVD rental machine which has many of the latest DVD releases. A branch of of Mulligan’s Pharmacy is conveniently located next door.
